Mount Kenya University’s affiliate television station TV47 has launched a new studio in Mombasa.
Located at the 10th floor of MKU Plaza, Nkrumah Road, the new state-of-art studio complements the Nairobi main studio in news gathering serving people from the counties of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Tana River, Taita Taveta, and Kwale in the coastal region.
While presiding over its launch, MKU Pro-Chancellor Dr. Vincent Gaitho said that MKU looks forward to mutually benefit partnerships with TV47 to enhance training of journalism and mass communication.
“MKU looks forward to mutually benefitting partnerships with TV47 to enhance training of journalism and mass communication at the Mombasa Campus. The advancement will provide an avenue for our students to learn more,” said Dr Gaitho.
Mvita MP Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir who was hosted as the first guest at the 7PM Kiswahili prime time news noted that the studio will play a big role in highlighting the issues affecting the Coastal people.
Previous to this, MKU got into a strategic partnership with TV47 to enhance online learning through televised lectures. The collaborative linkage with TV47 will strive to enhance the university functions.
The studio will deliver a double-pronged benefit: Open up internship opportunities for MKU students, and create employment opportunities for coastal residents. TV47 Pwani is kitted with top-of-the range broadcast equipment that will offer unparalleled training experience.
MKU Mombasa campus has since advertised Journalism and Mass Communication programmes. Training will commence in January 2021. The Campus is the sixth MKU campus to offer the programmes after Thika Main Campus, Nairobi Campus, Nakuru Campus, Eldoret Campus and MKU Rwanda Campus.
The new Mombasa studio is a double blessing to people in the coastal region. As a “Home of Untold Stories”, it will be a platform to educate, entertain and inform. MKU has continued to support the communities through the mandate of training, research and community outreach.
MKU has embraced digital technologies that are relevant in addressing the emerging global, regional and national issues and will continue to offer competitive, demand-driven academic programmes at all its campuses.
