A middle-aged woman has today evening delivered a bouncing baby boy inside a moving public service vehicle (matatu) that was headed to Thika town.
The woman gave birth to the baby at Kimbo area along Thika superhighway.
The happy woman boarded a Mataara Sacco matatu with registration number KCN 174W at Ruiru bypass, but started developing labour pains only a few metres past Ruiru.
Before arriving at Kimbo shopping centre, the mother had already delivered a bouncing baby boy.
According to Francis Mwangi the conductor to the vehicle that was carrying the woman, passengers who were sited next to the expectant mother raised an alarm after she started complaining of abdominal pains.
“The lady who boarded together with the mother raised an alarm that the pregnant woman would give birth anytime and I requested the driver (Mr. Kiarie) to speed up to the nearest hospital but she delivered some meters away to the hospital,” he told www.latestnewskenya.com
The two are currently being assessed by doctors at the MTM Medical Centre located at Kimbo along the major highway.
While operators of the public service vehicles have been accused of carelessness and negligence, the action exhibited by the two PSV operators was acclaimed as humane and one that should be emulated by other operators.
