In a bid to promote local tourism and investment around the country, Urithi Housing Cooperative Society sponsored its members to attend a three days holiday in the coast. According to Society Chairman Samuel Maina, the Society took the initiative to ensure that its members realized the need to promote local tourism by visiting tourism attraction in the country and also ensure that they invest in areas far away from their home counties.
Said Maina, “The housing is encouraging and empowering its members to invest even in far away counties from home. The housing in partnership with members has empowered them to also farm as the area is good in bee keeping, and soils rich for pineapples, tree planting and green grams. This will give them an extra source of income and they will benefit from their investment, instead of buying land for speculation.”
The members traveled to Malindi in Kilifi County where they were hosted by the society in a posh tourist resort in the area where they enjoyed tourists treatment for three days (two nights). The members used the opportunity to visit the Lulu Gardens 5,000 acres of land in Malindi.
The Society has subdivided the land into five acres portions which is selling at an introductory price of Kes. 500,000 (Kes. 100,000/acre). On purchase of the portion a member is given and extra acre free. On seeing the land, Majority of members booked more plots.
Maina said his Society in partnership with members has empowered them to also farm as the area is good in bee keeping, and soil is rich for pineapple, tree planting and green grams. “This will give them an extra source of income and they will benefit from their investment, instead of buying land for mere speculations,” Maina stated.
Members commended the Society under the auspice of Maina for organizing the historical tour. “We want the society to be organizing such tours because they bring people together and build confidence in investment,”a member who did not want to be identified said.
